Diamond Electrodes - Technical Description

Treating drinking and waste water with diamond electrodes has only recently begun to be understood and explained. Boron-enriched diamonds provide a conductive surface that enables the production of shortlived hydroxyl radicals, which oxidize into carbon dioxide (Co2) and water when in contact with organic impurities. Surplus hydroxyl radicals stabilise as secondary particles, and react with water or soda to become oxidation agents (active oxygen). The resulting percarbonate and peroxide gently disinfect the pool, inhibiting the growth of unwanted microorganisms and germs.

The Pro-Aqua Diamante Electrodes

The Aqua Diamante cell is exclusively equipped with high quality Pro-Aqua Diamante electrodes. The only in the world to be produced in a high-temperature/ pressure process using solid boron-enriched diamonds. Using these high value diamonds gives the electrodes a practically unlimited lifespan. Aqua Diamante cannot be compared to conventional diamond electrodes, which with a Boron-enriched diamond layer of less than μm (CVD/synthetic-diamond) have a very limited lifespan and are susceptible to mechanical wear and tear. Even a tiny crack in a CVD Diamond can cause gases to develop under the diamond layer, forcing the coating to flake off. Pro-Aqua Diamante electrodes comprise of solid single crystal diamond. It is the hardest known material and does not degrade.

How does the patented Aqua Diamante soda technology work?

How it works

In order to create the optimal conditions for your skin and for the function of the diamond cell, the pool water is softened through an ion-exchange (hardness < 4° dH) and its conductivity is brought to 2,5 mS. The conductivity and hardness only need to be adjusted when the pool water is topped up. A simple conductivity meter is supplied to monitor the water, though it normally remains constant over the bathing season with no adjustments required. Do not add salt as this would cause chlorine to develop.


Taste and smell

We all know the uncomfortable odour of a chlorinated swimming pool. Aqua Diamante poolwater is completely odour free and tastes fresh. Unlike chlorine which is a soluble gas, the active substances in Aqua Diamante are dissolved salts, which do not breakdown into a gaseous state. This means there is never any loss of active substances.

Do I have real diamonds in my cell?

Yes. However they are not natural diamonds. They are specially manufactured using a high temperature/pressure process and contain boron, so in contrast to natural diamonds they are excellent conductors.


The most common cause of metal corrosion in pools is chlorine and chloride. Particularly at low pH, traces of rust can be found on pool ladders and stainless steel jets fittings. This also reduces the lifespan of pumps and components. Because of the regular pH adjustments using pH-reducing products (containing hydrochloric or sulphuric acid), the metal that is in contact with the water is constantly being corroded. 

In Aqua Diamante pools corrosion is effectively avoided thanks to the perfect pH-buffering and the absence of chlorine and chloride.

pH-Regulation is no longer necessary!

With an Aqua Diamante pool the pH is adjusted automatically due to the composition of the pool water. No pH regulator or checking is required, as it is always around pH 8, the optimal range for an Aqua Diamante pool. If somehow chlorine accidentally ends up in the pool, at pH 8 it is harmless, as it can no longer react. Whereas if there is a pH 8 value in a chlorinated pool the treatment process no longer works.

Robots, sandfilters, skimmers…

The diamond cell offers perfect water treatment, however particles that fall into the pool must still be removed mechanically. The pool is like any other living space and regular vacuuming is required. It is possible to use a pool cleaning robot similar to a vacuum cleaner, or a combination of sandfilter and half-automated systems.

Do the pumps have to stay on?

Unlike biological treatment systems the pumps do not have to stay on 24 hours a day, though the running time should not drop below 8 hours per day.
